MATTEO CASALI
MATTEO CASALI was born in Schio in northern Italy in 1994 and is currently completing his degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice where his specialist subject is painting. Despite his young age, Casali has already held a number of solo and group exhibitions that have brought him to the attention of critics and galleries across the country.
Casali works principally in oil and acrylic on canvas. His bold, startling figurative style clearly draws on the influence of Francis Bacon. Many of his works depict figures seated in isolation, lost in contemplation of the space before them, with Casali using the domestic setting to underscore the dominant mood of alienation and loneliness.
