Italian sculptress and painter Maiti was born in Piacenza in 1956. Self-taught, she began exhibiting professionally in 2007 and her work has since been the focus of a number of successful solo and group shows.

Maiti’s initial interest in painting gradually gave way to a passion for figurative sculpture. Creating animals and human figures principally from paper mache and wire, her work combines playfulness and humor with extreme expressiveness. Maiti’s dog sculptures in particular have won attention and acclaim. Gaunt and attenuated, these skeletal creatures succeed in capturing the essence of the canine character.
